A small picture frame in solid pine with a brown finish, sized 13 x 18cm. It stands on a desk or shelf and hangs on a wall, which is the minimum a small frame should do and more than many manage.
Solid timber is the distinction worth paying attention to in small frames. Most frames at this size are moulded composite with a printed woodgrain wrap, and the difference shows at the mitred corners, where a wrap leaves a visible seam and solid pine does not. It also shows over time: a wrap lifts at the edges in a warm room, timber does not.
Small frames work in groups. One 13x18 on a wall reads as an oversight; five of them in a loose cluster, or three in a line above a desk, reads as a decision. How should I care for my piece?
As a general rule: dust dry rather than wet with a soft cloth, avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents, keep pieces out of prolonged direct sunlight, and wipe up spills promptly.
